Welcome to The Rotation! Every week we drop a few albums that our writers have been bumping the most so that we can share our thoughts on stuff we might not get to review otherwise – Whether it be fresh drops, throwbacks, or underground gems.
Slime Dollaz & Tae808 – Slimes & 808s
Teaming up with Tae808 for production, Slime Dollaz raps his way through the subtle production. Beats on here aren’t in your face, but allow for the focus on Slime Dollaz syrup-drenched flows. Short at five tracks, yet none of that time is wasted.
Quelly Woo – Just TP Vol.1
Sample drill continues to live on through Quelly Woo’s new release. Sampling anything from “Slow Jamz” by Twista to its own contemporaries in the NY Drill scene like the late Pop Smoke, production on here is absurdly fun. That said, Quelly Woo does nothing with it. His voice has that rasp that has become synonymous with early days of the NY Drill scene, nowadays its moved more to a yelling/screaming flow, but sounds sloppy without saying much of significance.
Duwap Kaine – You Influenced Me
Duwap Kaine constantly gets some of the best beats out of any rapper in the Soundcloud scene, but he constantly sounds off. The beat on “School” has this creative industrial bounce to it, but Kaine sounds like he’s rapping against it with shockingly random punch-ins. None of this is ever broken up with features either, its all him. If you can stomach it, you’ll be awarded with some of the most fun production out there.
